I don't use a solar device so I can't comment on that. I have a cigarette lighter adapter and the device starts up as soon as I start the car. I need this because my steering wheel is preventing me from seeing the normal speedometer in the 60-80 mph range. This block is where I can see it on my steering column so it's easy to see. It just sits and goes nowhere. Easy to install, no instructions needed, I figured it out myself. Solve my problem at an affordable price.
