For cold tea and lemonade. Iced tea starts with boiling water in a pot, I let the teabags steep for a few minutes, then I dissolve the sugar in the tea and put it in the fridge. Borosilicate glass goes from near boiling temperatures to cold with ease, I've been using this jug for months with no problems. I wash in the dishwasher, can be washed in the dishwasher. The lid appears to be stainless steel, so no discoloration has occurred in the dishwasher. I also have a thinner version, it works well too but seems thinner than this one.
