Review on Apostrophe Games Erase Blank Cards by George Hersey

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Fun concept but quite disappointing

I checked the Questions and Answers section before purchasing and saw several people calling these cards 'thick playing cards'; the list itself also includes their use as playing cards. I suppose you could define "playing cards" in a number of ways, since not every poker-sized card is used exclusively for card games. But considering how badly these cards crumple when shuffled and that they absolutely cannot be used over and over again as advertised, I personally think they shouldn't be called playing cards at all. (For size reference only, of course). But this is laminated cardboard and just like that. I should have known that they wrinkle and fold easily/deeply because that's what paper does! However, this review is debatable for me as the project I bought it for didn't require shuffling. Rather, I needed them to be strong enough to be used in the corners of photos (those little sticky triangles used in scrapbooks). It was a big failure, didn't work well at all. Damn. They quickly parted and scattered into the corners. I was surprised how easily they peeled off exposing the layers of paper. While they're strong enough for flash cards and for very easy use in games that don't require shuffling, I recommend Bicycle Double Blank Poker Cards (available here at Revain) if you *don't* need dry-erase functionality. . They've proven to be much, much more durable and won't peel off no matter what you ask of them. ... Finally I tried dry erase markers from 3 different brands (Universal, Expo, Pilot) and was glad to see them all. completely erased, without halos. But they rub off too easily. Just a glimpse or an inadvertent touch of a finger and it's a smearing of the city. Or worse, the job disappears altogether. Depending on your end goal, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I guess I didn't understand that when working on a regular whiteboard, you're less likely to accidentally delete your work. You have to be very careful on such a small map. So I guess if I used them as matching cards or DIY games I would be disappointed if my work disappeared at the slightest touch. Best to use with a permanent maker? I'll keep looking for practical uses because so far...I haven't found any.
