Not suitable for ground coffee

I bought a large kilo canister for my 2.2 lb bags of coffee beans and this small canister for several days of ground coffee. I haven't used the large pot yet, but I put the last of the ground coffee from the empty bag into the small pot. Both resisted sealing empty canisters with airtight lids. Now when I use it with ground coffee there is very little resistance when squeezing the lid and I wonder if it's as airtight as I thought it would be. I'll check it out in the next few days but I have my doubts.
