I asked my painter to install a ceiling fan because he was painting the stairs here. He went above and beyond with the limited instructions he gave. It installs and works with a light switch, not a remote control. And while my previous fan was controlled with 2 wall switches, one for the fan and one for the light, this fan only works when the fan switch is on and then turns on the light as well. I really wish I could turn on the fan and turn off the lights. I think it might be motion sensitive and the light goes off when there's no movement because the light went out briefly once while watching TV, but when I got up to explore it came back on. I don't know exactly because I haven't noticed this behavior since, but it was only a few weeks ago. I also had to purchase a separate 24" down rod to pitch my ceiling. That I knew I would. The company read my review and sent me a partial refund and also contacted me to try their best to help me get the job done remotely. If you have problems, contact them for help. I believe you will get it. Overall I'm happy with it, but I'm mildly happy.
