Failure in less than a month due to defective soldering

Relay failed after brief use on a street bike in the garage. It no longer connects the circuit when the appropriate current is applied to the input pins. Using a multimeter, I confirmed that the relay was to blame. By carefully opening the dead relay, I was able to verify that the solder joints that were supposed to connect the input pins to the coil's internal wiring were faulty and failed. This resulted in the relay not responding to any input. I was able to get it working again with a soldering iron, melting the useless blobs of lead on the broken connections and soldering the wires to the input pins. If you try this, be careful not to deform the plastic cover too much, as the heat will tend to melt it.

Pros
  • Heavy duty relay made of copper, rustproof and highly flammable. Perfect replacement for Yamaha relays, continuous use.
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
