I have two very large GSDs and a cat. Providing fresh water during the freezing season was an endless, stressful, and messy job. No longer. Once I figured out how to give the bowl a stable platform (yes, there was a small water accident that took A LOT of mopping) I didn't have a single problem. The dogs water the plants and I don't have water all over the floor and I don't have to lift those heavy gravity-fed water jugs several times a week. Hubby hooked it up to the cold water valve under the sink and adjusted the flow so the bowl was a little less than half full. Not good. Thats much better. Full Disclosure. The drip pan under the planter sometimes filled with water when they were particularly sloppy. I spent $1.97 on turkey lube and got the extra water out. I only need a few minutes every now and then. never mind When we leave town we turn off the water on the faucet because it flows non-stop as they tip it over and use the gravity flow fed in our absence. It's quiet, easy to clean, and all three took to using it easily.
