This is nice and soft and lightweight, very comfortable. As a mousepad or armrest, it seems like it would be perfect. As a desk liner to write on, it might be a touch difficult, since it's just a tiny bit too soft for that. A marker would work great, but I tried a pencil and ballpoint pen, and while they didn't rip the paper, they weren't really comfortable writing with.Watch the measurements, because the small size really is small, not enough to cover the working area of a desk - but it works great for me as a place to put a few small desk things, protecting my desk.
