(1) The battery in the key is soldered to the circuit board and if you drop (or throw) the key and it hits a hard surface, the battery can slip off be disconnected from the circuit board charges and stop working. it helps soften it a bit. (2) If you need to replace the battery in this key, it must be cut with a razor blade to access the battery. After soldering a new battery and using a small amount of glue to put the key back together, the rubber boot will keep the key from falling apart if the glue loosens. (see reason 1)
