I inherited this old 1953 singer and have been sewing with it and doing various jobs for 20 years. In all that time I've never broken a needle, so I had the original 3 needles that I've always used. Spring. I finally broke one. I figured I could just run to the store and buy a new needle. I have made. it didn't fit. So I had to be more careful and find one with a flat side that matched the old car. Spring. Turns out they're perfect for the old car. And now I have 7 of them (these 5 plus my original 2 that didn't break). Beautiful packaging of different sizes for different purposes. The packaging was plain bubble wrap in a mailing envelope. It arrived with no damage and was shipped quickly via USPS.
