I originally bought these because one-piece bolt-on boots are more expensive, which seemed like a better deal. I was wrong. The first one I tried had a thread stripped, causing the secondary screw-on part to fly off. If I "fixed" an object in it, it would fall to the ground. It also doesn't level well as you have no mechanism to measure when it's attached to the rig. Basically you are forced to twist it on a 1/4"-20 screw and hope it straightens out as you tighten. I would use the more expensive one piece cold shoe adapters which you can bolt to the rig in the exact position you want want.
