Review on Tecsun PL398MP DSP Digital AM/FM/LW Shortwave Radio: Dual Speakers & MP3 Player, Black - The Ultimate Audio Solution by Agata Uchman ᠌

Good product, not disappointed.

I'm well over 60. As far as I can remember, I was born with headphones) I soldered my first "stereo receiver" when I was 15. Now about the 398th, more precisely, about the sound (more than enough has been written about other parameters). The sound from the built-in speakers really doesn't match the level of other receiver features. But, as audiophiles say, you can't fool physics. However, my experience tells me that it is not necessary to deceive anyone. I offer 3 options for solving the problem of poor sound quality: two are alternative, the third is complex. 1. Replace the built-in (standard) speakers (0.25 W, 8 Ohm) with small-sized broadband speakers, for example, Visaton BF 45 S/4 (4 W, 4 Ohm). They fit perfectly in size, and their frequency response is "ideal" for this size: 90-20220. 2. Connect a portable speaker with good bass power from 10 to 30 W to the EAR connector (headphone output) (there are plenty of them on sale now). The receiver itself produces highs well, and the bass is added by external speakers. In general, it turns out a very decent sound picture, especially on FM. 3. We install new speakers (on the road) + connect an external portable speaker (for home). All about sound. In conclusion, I will add that earlier (very earlier)) I could not even imagine such characteristics of the receiver (and even sound!) I recommend for purchase to true connoisseurs of successful models of receivers.

Pros
  • Customization options. Connection interfaces (external antenna, headphones, MP3). Long telescopic antenna (90 cm). Stereo (speakers + headphones). Large backlit display. Size. Weight. Housing material (odorless). Case.
Cons
  • The sound of the built-in speakers. The size of the setting buttons. Dust and moisture Insecurity.
