Before this unit, all my pepper grinders used 4 AA batteries. and if the shutter was not closed every time, pepper dust kept escaping. You also had to hold the button down and I like a lot of pepper (around 60-90 seconds) so that was a pain. This device is well built, easy to use and doesn't make a mess, plus it's rechargeable. All you have to do is turn it over and it will start grinding.
