These are great little hook wrenches and make the job quick and easy in many situations. No, they won't always work for everything, but they're definitely worth keeping in your bag. I think they're particularly useful when you can press the nut against the finished surface, like some exterior fittings, and don't want to leave scratches or risk breaking cheap zinc castings with a twist. I've found they can get in a few tight spots that pliers would never get, and in the same box with a thermostat mounted on it, using a hammer/screwdriver isn't the best idea, but that's how they must have it originally made. For those asking for a two dimensional wrench, they could do that, but then a wrench would be more limited in use as one end of each tool is slightly offset from the other.
