Disclaimer - a woman who doesn't know anything about electrical wiring and doesn't own the terminology. The fan speed switch broke in that little switch so I couldn't just extend the circuit with a plug. This was the recommended replacement for the Hunter fan. I disassembled the bottom of the fan and disconnected it from the main fan with a simple power connector. After looking at the switch and studying for a while I finally figured out how to separate the wires to the switch. They freed themselves with a slight pull and pressure on a small metal object with a tiny doner kebab skewer. The wires connect to the new switch by inserting them into the small wire connector. I made one wire at each so the switch was properly connected. A few weeks and no problems. The fan is in the beach house, so I didn't have any tools with me other than a Phillips screwdriver.
