Review on πŸ”Œ HiLetgo FT232RL FTDI Mini USB to TTL Serial Converter Adapter Module 3.3V 5.5V FT232R Breakout Review by Sean Patel

Smooth sailing, I read, don't use the latest ymmv drivers

This is the same module as a quiet guy with glasses on youtube uses the dronebot workshop. There are warnings that Windows is blocking this device with a newer driver. Download FTDI 2010 or 2013 driver? And after Windows automatically installs the driver when connected, roll back the driver manually by selecting the downloaded one. Before connecting I downloaded the driver. If you right-click an INF file and select Install, it will be merged with the available Windows drivers and you can just manually select them from the list as you change them. If it's too heavy for you, you probably shouldn't be using it anyway, or real FTDI! You don't do anything with it by programming the Arduinos and ESPS that you can't do with the old driver. It only shows up as a COM port on your computer. You can change the mapping number assigned to it in Device Manager. Be sure to set the jumper to 3.3 or 5 volts. If you are working on a Dronebot esp32 camera project, you will need more power (current) if you run it through the module to test it without a separate power supply. The esp32 camera is sucking some juice! To do this, use a 5V jumper on the 5V ESP pin instead of 3.3V as he suggests and set the jumper back to 5V.

Pros
  • Chipset: FT232RL, not real FTDI chip, Working voltage: 3.3V/5.5V
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
