Review on πŸ“ž Baofeng UV-9R Plus Black: Superior Walkie Talkie with Extended Range and Enhanced Features by Dng Quc Hng ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The purchase was not entirely successful, there were minor problems in use.

Here I want to focus on waterproofing. this is the distinguishing feature of this device. The specification lists the device as IPX7, which means it can be submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 m. The instructions say: "After 30 minutes into one meter underwater, the radio still works very well." Those. the manufacturer has confirmed these parameters. I put the included walkie-talkie in a bucket of water for 20 minutes. The radio remained on the whole time. After taking it out of the water, I discovered that the flashlight turned on spontaneously, which did not want to turn off with the button. After turning the power off and on again, the display lit up, but the device did not reach full functionality. After removing the battery, I found a few drops of water under it. Drops of water on the inside of the display glass. In addition, water was found in the place where the antenna was attached under it. When the power was turned on again, the device was buggy, each time in a different way. After drying for 2 days with the battery removed and the antenna unscrewed, fogging of the display glass is still visible (see photo). Functionality has not been restored. I dismantled the radio (I didn't give a damn about the warranty). And what did you see? Inside a drop of water! (This can be seen in the photo). During disassembly, it turned out that the moisture protection is designed so that there are places where water can penetrate. In other words, the lack of moisture protection is not a manufacturing defect, but a design error. Conclusion: the radio does not fulfill the IPX7 protection level (!) But this is the factor that distinguishes this model from others and for which it is bought. From splashes, rain, even jets of water will protect. Those. full IPX6. It can be seen from the design that the radio must withstand shocks: the board is attached to a massive metal base, which is connected to the case through rubber gaskets. Conclusion: for trips on land, even in the rain - it is quite suitable. Might survive a brief drop in water. Overall rating: "satisfactory".

Pros
  • Price-quality ratio. UHF and VHF bands, ease of use once you get the hang of it.
Cons
  • Waterproof - does not withstand the IPX7 level. Really IPX6.
