Review on 🌡 Versatile Protection: Pelican 1510 Case With Foam - Desert Tan (1510-000-190) by Yolanda Johnson

This is luggage for the serious traveler.

I am an archaeologist who travels all over the world and I have ordered this case as main luggage on flights. At first I removed the foam liners and just used the empty case as a trunk of sorts, but I have since ordered liners separately for the LOC 1510 case "Laptop Overnight Carry" pack. (Ordering the case and inserts separately actually saved me a few bucks.) I put all of my fragile and non-flying items like my laptop, tools, and field knife in this case along with most of my clothing and took several clothing changes. Winter clothes in a small sports bag that I use as hand luggage. This way I can be sure my registered items will arrive safe and sound and if the registered bag is lost I still have the minimum required in a separate bag. This size is ideal for use as hand luggage, but on some international flights you will still be asked to check it in. This suitcase is built like a tank and I have absolutely no doubt that during the rainy season my luggage will be strapped to the roof of a tuk-tuk or dumped in the back of an open truck. A typical packing list consists of my laptop, hard drive, and associated cables and accessories, two pairs of Carhartt double-fronted hiking pants, five field shirts, five pairs of hiking socks, and enough boxer shorts to survive the trip, plus a small set of toiletries. This is great for a week-long trip, I bring extras for longer adventures. I could have bought a larger Pelican, but my initial goal was to spread the load and diversify luggage options. This suitcase weighs about 11 pounds so I really have to try to pack it with enough stuff to break the 50 pound excess weight limit. In this case, if I ever manage to break something, the Pelican has phenomenal customer support and will usually replace almost anything for free. I used a few luggage options before deciding to take the plunge and invest in this suitcase and heck do I wish I could invest in perfection from the start! This is the case for those who travel seriously and need luggage that suits their rugged lifestyle.

Pros
  • Pelikan cases come standard with an automatic pressure relief valve that relieves excess air pressure while keeping water out.
Cons
  • Low maintainability
