Ports not working well

I have a working MacBook Air that I need, usually HDMI/USB ports for my work. I ordered this dongle and while it looks good, my mouse, which is connected to the computer via a USB dongle, was not working properly. I've tried changing the mouse's battery to make sure this isn't the cause, but it looks like the connection isn't very good. Also, one of the USB-C ports doesn't work at all. Really annoying as I just ordered a Bluetooth mouse as I otherwise like the dongle, but then I found that one of the USB-C ports wasn't working. Extremely dissatisfied.
