Surprises the Grumpy Old Man with expensive audio equipment.

I don't skimp on speakers or other audio equipment. I'm retired, so I'm finally making decent money. I spent $7,000 on home theater sound. My home office has $500 studio monitors hooked up to my computer. I have a feeling/standard for good sound quality. I just bought another ECHO DOT to use in my guest room and figured $36 would be fine for a guest table in this room. Wow! These speakers sound way better than I expected. Now my other pillbox rooms are jealous. A medium-sized ECHO in my home theater room doesn't move, but that's for aesthetics, not sound quality. When it comes to subwoofers, placement is important. You need the help of floors and walls to get the best reflected sound. I put it under the table and against the wall. I was glad that the different cables are longer with this set. Don't ask me to crawl under the table again to find out the exact length of the cables. They're probably about a foot longer than most people will ever need desktop speakers. The speakers were easy to set up and the bass level has been reduced to around 1/3 and they really pack a punch. I started with the bass control at about 50% but it was too boomy. I know many like to crank the bass to MAX. For my "audiophile" feeling, this is an abomination. In fact, I think anyone would find the bass overdone at maximum volume; but a lot of that depends on where the subwoofer is located. Under the table next to the wall, 50% was too much for me. I read several reviews here that stated the desktop speakers were "unstable". I think that's correct, but if they were in my office I'd probably glue some 5" plastic stands to the bottom of the speaker bases. I like the desktop puck. Echo DOT you also have voice control for volume up/down/mute/stop and select/source. They don't have Bluetooth or WiFi on hand for guests, but I left an "old" 3.5mm cable on the table so they can connect to the headphone audio input on the puck. For $36 I'm amazed at how good they sound. I would not recommend them for youngsters in the house. too much volume and bass for a quiet home.
