These are DEFINITELY compression socks! I am medium height and wear size 9 shoes and it was very difficult for me to put them on. I'm 7 months pregnant and my feet aren't swollen at all yet so I tried them on for the size and comfort and as a preventive measure to make sure my feet didn't swell. I was able to put them on and they are comfortable for once, but I think I'll order the larger ones to have on hand just in case because I know I'll never be able to put them on when my feet swell. . I hope they are easier to put on the second, third, fourth time, etc. But they are cute! and thin, so you can definitely wear them with shoes without any problems. So I recommend them, but maybe the size is bigger than what you usually get.
