I don't shoot macro often, but I need a lens for nice portraits. This is the best macro for general photography for a number of reasons. 1. The auto focus speed is fast. Really fast. As long as you don't focus in range from front to back, the autofocus will be impressive. It's also quiet which is a nice bonus.2. Doesn't expand. This is more of a personal matter, but a retractable lens can distract models and throw the camera off balance.3. Stabilization. This is less important to me as I usually shoot with flash and use IBIS, but great if you're shooting in low light. A great advantage for those who do not use a tripod. I was also very impressed with the build quality and the lens hood (which can be adjusted for full frame or APS-C). I'm not very tech savvy so I haven't tested the sharpness in detail, but macro lenses are always sharp and it seems like it's the perfect primer for all situations. If you can get it for sale, it's not. No problem, don't even look at other fixes with such a focal length. At full price it's more expensive than other macros, but if you like the 105mm focal length it's worth the investment.
