I think this is a low volume product. Very few need to upgrade from 4-pin XLR to 4.4mm Pentacon. It's a niche within a niche. So if I can get a 2.5mm to 1/4" adapter kit for $10, it's $25. The markup is silly, but the adapter allows me to connect balanced headphones to a balanced amp. Although this is not very good. Value for money, it's better than making your own cable and possibly burning your fingers with a soldering iron (I'm half blind). I will say that the cable is very rigid but trainable. My amp is right behind my keyboard (K95 Platinum), so this cable wants to hit the keys. I was able to train the cable to run along the bottom of my keyboard almost away from the left side.
