After draining a marine aquarium with a $30 pump from a local pet store, I purchased this replacement. It was the largest I could find at Revain and when I received it I was concerned because it was less than half a size and wasn't as heavy or bulky as the one I've had for over a year. However, I gave this one a try because I was concerned that the heavier (and much more expensive) device would not flush out the saltwater completely and thus harm my freshwater fish or their habitat. I was SO HAPPY with it! Was definitely not disappointed! This is a great little unit! Although I had my doubts when looking at it because it looked different than what I had before, I decided to use it and see what it is. What I noticed: 1. There is a removable, threaded "filter" nozzle that can be used to prevent accidental intake of fish during water changes (at first I didn't know what this part was for, but once we found out Having removed the nozzle at the suction end, we found that (according to the instructions I have not read) it was replaceable if desired (I have never "sucked" a fish by cleaning its gravel or changing the water , but it's good to know it will prevent that) 3. While the device seems flimsy and unreliable, it sucks up water FAST at an impressive rate of 4. Considering I only use it once every two weeks, can I assume that the $10 spent is a good investment, plastic takes 500 to 1000 years to decompose, so if the seam doesn't rip, which seems unlikely after my first use, then I'll have it for a long time (or not). he at least until I have to mess it up with it). cheg something else, in which case it's inexpensive enough to replace). There is one for fresh water and one for salt water. Maybe a third for an aquarium at work. Suction is as good as a pump (much bigger, heavier and more expensive). deluxe version which I paid double for at the pet store). it's because i have
