Well, I've just delved into the world of DE shaving and so far I've tried the Viking Blade Emperor adjustable blade. I have an IKON X3. And I've been shaving with Parker 55 SL for the last 4 days. Get a free shave with the right soap and razor blade. You've probably read that this razor is better because it cuts at an angle. After all, in revolutionary France, the guillotine also had a razor blade! They say it's not for beginners and I agree that the first razor a beginner buys needs to be adjustable to fit the groove, but it's a great second razor. These are 3 items I like because I can mix and match pens. Fewer mechanical parts to break. I bought an IKON X3 Slant Razor Head and am planning to try this pen. If I like the Ikon, I spend an extra $25 on a Bulldog pen, otherwise I just leave it in my desk drawer. The razor head is quite small. The design quality seemed right. The packaging was minimal and not as fancy as the Viking, but what can you expect for $30. I'll list my hardware and soap so you can duplicate IMHO Success1. Beautiful Silver Badger brush from Parker. This brush is great, it has different degrees of hardness. The ends are really soft but the deeper you get into the brush the stiffer they get. Of course, you can also get by with a cheaper brush. The men's marble shaving bowl is a fantastic bowl. I fill it with hot water and within a minute or two it heats up. So when I shake my soap, the foam stays warm. I don't know about you, but I love the feeling of warm foam on my face in the morning! When I was just starting out, I tried Feather and was blown away. I bought these two packs. The first package is very good, the choice is wide, but two blades are not enough. I've used up all my feathers and would of course like to come back to this. The second set is my favorite. Probably because I fell in love with Nacet and had great success with Astra Platinum from the first set. So I recommend Astra Platinum or Gillette Nacet for a great shave, and unless you're a true pro, stay away from Feather with a razor as aggressive as this.
