Review on Multitool keychain VICTORINOX RangerGrip 55 red/black by Wiktor Grzankowski ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The ratio of price and quality is very pleasing, I will repeat the purchase.

At the moment, I would value this knife at 4,000. Not cheaper and not more expensive. Here's the perfect price for it. If you choose between the 55 and 79 RangerGrip, keep in mind that the tooling is the same, but. the 79 has a one-handed opening feature, which is a plus, but it's this lug that will cut into your hand when you use the saw. And it is this protrusion that makes the knife impractically wider. Another feature is that the saw at the base is thinner than at the end. This is not a plus or a minus, it's just a funny observation. In some video review, I saw that the author says that the fixation button (logo) is pressed through with a fingernail and traces remain. This is wrong. Hard plastic button. By the way, the knife has a "liner" type fixation, and the button simply shifts this liner to the side. In general, after resharpening the blade to the handle and sharpening to the state of a razor, I was very pleased with this knife. But 5.500 (for how much I bought it) it is not worth it. 4.300 is the maximum how much it costs. Attention! If the length of the saw is not important, I highly recommend taking the 111mm Forester. Less weight, lower price, higher reliability, same functionality. I had it, served for about 15 years (lost, which is why I bought this one), and I can say with confidence that if it were not for the length of the saw (RangerGrip has 1 cm longer), I would take the Forester again. If compared with the Forester, then my copy of the knife deserves 4 stars, and if not compared, then 4.7 due to the small imperfections described above.

Pros
  • Comfortable, solid knife. According to TX, RangerGrips are the longest. Which is almost true (we read in the shortcomings). For a hike in the forest, an ideal selection of tools - a knife, a saw, a bottle opener, a can opener. The saw, by the way, is really the longest, it was because of it that I took this knife. The saw (as well as the knife) are at a slight downward angle, which allows you to cut more comfortably. If convenience is controversial for a knife blade (depending on what and how to cut), then for a saw it is definitely convenient.
Cons
  • While it is stated that this is the longest knife, the sharp blade of the knife is only a couple of millimeters longer than the 111 mm knife due to the fact that there is an unsharpened “nut” between the handle and the sharp part of the blade. I had to manually chamfer and sharpen, which cannot be done without tools and experience, and not everyone has this. The photo indicated how much metal had to be removed. When I take out the corkscrew, for some reason it strongly springs against the handle of the knife. None of my other 6 Victorinox have this. At the same time, it does not really spring and does not play. Very strange. The blade of the knife in my copy when folded lies not in the center but is pressed against the central wall (see photo). This is all uncritical, but somewhat frustrating.
