Review on Under Cabinet Lighting NSL Plugged by Sandra Wilson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very slim design with lots of good quality light

I replaced the light with two T4 fluorescent tubes. The old light's plastic lens turned yellow (UV from the tubes?) and this one was a huge improvement. There's a good one uniform light and it's enough for a recessed light. At low settings it's noticeably brighter than the original light. The selectable color temperature is a nice feature and all settings are usable. Being able to buy this in multiple lengths is a nice plus. Fixtures can be chosen be joined together to make longer lengths but I haven't tried that. The body is made from fairly light aluminum and overall the mechanical quality seems acceptable. It seems a bit pricey at $150.If it were under $100, I would give it four stars overall Installation is a bit tricky if you can't use the middle hole Solv To do this, use the two self-tapping screws to remove the cover, then knock out one of the holes. Care must be taken when knocking out one of the holes, as the aluminum housing could easily deform. Some knockouts are partially blocked by an electronic "ballast" on one end. With everything connected and the cover back in place, the bracket is secured with two small screws. The included screws are great for wood, but I recommend pre-drilling. The steps of punching the hole and connecting the wires are not that easy when the work has to be done with the bracket mounted upside down under the cabinet. The description mentions that the jig has 3/8 inch knockout holes. Fixed installation must be done with some type of 3/8 armored cable. If you're considering adapting it to the more common 1/2" flex cable, be aware that the mount is so thin that there isn't enough room to punch a 1/2" hole. 2 inch fittings. Comes with a straight compression fitting for 3/8" cable. In my case, I needed an angle bracket, but I couldn't find one.

Pros
  • Can be connected to up to 400 W/single power supply. Supplied with 8" lead wire and end plug
Cons
  • Out of fashion
