Brilliant! good for digital cameras (so far)

I received this camera yesterday and have been using it almost nonstop since (although I don't think that says much as it only lasted a day). So far I'm very happy with it! I'm an artist and sometimes do semi-serious photo projects as a part-time job. I have a good (film) DSLR that I use, but I wanted something smaller, lighter and more suitable for everyday use. I'm also not particularly interested in Flash or video, so those features didn't bother me. The manual settings were important to me though, and while this camera is ostensibly marketed as a point-and-shoot, I'm still very happy with the amount of manual control one can get. Manual mode is pretty basic, and there are aperture priority and shutter speed modes too. Manual focusing is also very convenient and the picture-in-picture function on the display makes operation very easy. I have few complaints. The display is difficult to see in bright sunlight and I have to shade it with one hand when taking photos. On top of that, I'm also a bit disappointed with the (slightly) clunky appearance of this 14-42mm zoom camera. It's not as small as you think (but probably small enough to fit in your pocket). I bought this camera with just this lens and it seems to me that the camera should have been bought with the zoom and pancake lens. As other people have said, the zoom lens here also casts a shadow when you're using the flash at close range. Anyway I would recommend this camera to people like me and anyone who wants a good quality small camera. for everyday use. You probably won't want to use this camera for your serious professional projects (although I think you would), but other than that I think this camera is a good choice.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
