This carrier is very comfortable for the adult and the baby. I like that you can use it for back carrying as well. We have a couple of other carriers but those don't work for back carrying and start to get a bit painful when carrying a heavier baby. The seat it comes with for the baby to sit on is useful but a bit bulky (although it can be removed). I would say that this carrier will work well for a 1 or 2-year-old, It would be useful for hiking as little ones that age still get tired quickly on a hike.
