I was surprised that although the packaging clearly states that the blade and plates are stainless steel, the instructions state that they are not safe to come into contact with water. I called customer service and asked for a stainless steel knife and the agent told me they are STAINLESS STEEL but WILL RUST if not thoroughly dried immediately after use. That's kind of the definition of not stainless, isn't it? The model below has an actual stainless steel blade, which is advertised as such on their website and has no indication that it cannot be soaked. However, customer service refused to send me a replacement. I understand you may have to compromise with lower level products. Touting parts as stainless even if they rust and leave a black coating on ground beef (according to the owner's manual this is to be expected, normal and not a problem) just isn't fair. Stay away from this device.
