I bought this bed specifically because of the under bed storage drawers for my daughter. She has a bedroom set she previously bought from Babies R Us with a crib that converts to a full bed, but with the growing closet I wanted something with drawers under the bed rather than pull out plastic bins. My husband assembled the bed in less than two hours. but it's with two kids who "help", I distract him a little and eat a little between them. Nothing broke during assembly. If you put things together like I see in other reviews (the slats supporting the mattress) I imagine they might break. Of course, if a grown man weighing over 200 pounds holds on to one of the bars while picking up the others, they will break. If this weight is distributed across the mattress, the slats should be fine. The headboard is semi-soft. He is very white. And not so "brilliant" but not quite dull. My daughter's furniture is actually pearl white or off-white, but since it's upholstered in fabric rather than wood, it doesn't look that bad. I didn't want to spend a fortune on a bed that a 6 year old was going to beat anyway, and I didn't want to buy another bedroom set so all the pieces fit together at this point. Storage boxes under the bed on wheels. and are made of plastic. They roll out from under the bed like in the photo with two fluffy pillows. I could see them breaking if someone grabbed them too hard.
