later I thought this had a hinged spring clip to attach to the vent. This is not the case - the handle is an almost rigid claw with a silicone coating. Persevere. I already had a magnet hidden inside my phone case from a mount I had installed in a previous car. So it took about 20 seconds to install. The head rotates in every direction, so I tilted it towards the driver. On my car (2007 Prius) the clip slides into the vent just far enough to block the vent. To me, this is a feature, not a bug, as it prevents the vent from slowly sagging under the weight of the phone. Due to the differences between cars and phones and individual preferences, no one phone mount fits all. But this one worked perfectly for me.
