The magnet sticks well and securely to the car vent, but either the magnets aren't strong enough or my case is too thick. If I wanted to put it in the case right on the phone, it wouldn't be held by a magnet. An easy workaround, although I just taped it to my case's hard case underneath my Otterbox's silicone otter case and it has held up fine. This product comes in great packaging, easily attaches and stays on the air outlet. My iPhone XS Max stays, but you must have metal on the top of the phone. The magnet won't hold the phone when the metal is put in a nice and strong protective case. You have to put it on the outside. I have used this on two cars with an iPhone XR in a leather case. The clip that holds the air vent is covered with a thick rubber material. The grip strength of this clamp is not adjustable, but seems very reliable, at least with horizontal blades. I place one of the included metal plates between the phone and the case and the phone stays in place as I gently place the phone on the magnet so the metal plate aligns.
