==Update==Three years later I still wear these earrings. I take them out once a month to give them a good clean and back again. You benefit from a gentle polish after three years. My ears adjusted after about 2-3 weeks and I haven't had any discomfort since then. Very happy with this purchase. still! == Original review follows == When I remove the earrings from my second pair of holes, my ears seem to regenerate faster than the kudzu vine. So I always have studs in my second holes, even though my main earrings are hanging on a jewelry tree all the time. Wearing 24x7 cleats meant they had to be comfortable enough to be ignored and strong enough not to go out while I ignored them. My last set was great in the first part but not so good in the second part. Even when I swapped out the base for a tighter pair, I woke up last week to find I'd lost a bolt during my travels. I bought the screw back earrings out of disappointment. The good thing is that they look exactly like the last pair of 14k white gold earrings I had. The bad part is that the posts are made a bit thicker to make them strong enough to hold the threads. The holes will adjust, I know it's now, my ears are a bit picky. The backs are tiny but screwed on tightly - they don't feel like they can spontaneously detach at all. It's not that I'd mind putting a tiny drop of Loc-Tite on it, but I wouldn't if it's possible. I've slept in it for a few nights now and find it comfortable and the back is still secure.
