Review on Canon 8 2MP Digital Camera Body by Shawn Jimenez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Besides a great camera.

To be honest, the Canon EOS 30d is a masterpiece of engineering. I've had the camera for about four months now, no complaints. Here are some pros and cons of the Canon 30d: Prose) You get excellent build quality. You get a magnesium alloy body rather than the plastic body found on lower-quality entry-level Nikon and Canon DSLRs. It doesn't appear to be "cheap," which is quite reassuring. A weatherproof housing is definitely important. b) You will get a high quality LCD screen. Most entry-level cameras don't have LCD status screens, which are typically only seen on mid-range cameras. This is very useful when it is very bright outside. You will see all the necessary information. c) Excellent performance at high ISO. This camera works exclusively at all sensitivity levels, from one hundred to thirty-two hundred ISO. At 3200, the images are relatively quiet, which surprised me. Try increasing the ISO to 3200 on the D40, you won't be happy with the results. d) quick shot. The 30d shoots at five frames per second, which is pretty rare for a camera in this price range. D40 shoots twice as slow. Even the Nikon D90 and Canon 5d Mark II shoot slower than the 30d, amazing right? The burst speed is sometimes very handy. With a fast sports lens, this would be the perfect camera for a soccer mom. These are the main advantages. Cons) The only negative I can think of is that it doesn't have a self-cleaning sensor. Here in the Bahamas, it's difficult to get hold of the consumables needed to clean the sensor, so Canon would do well to include a self-cleaning sensor in the body. If you have sensor cleaners, this is not a problem. For some, cleaning the sensor can be quite a challenge. This is a really good camera and I can only recommend it. No need to pay for more expensive cameras when you get better performance from the Canon 30d. Although this camera came out a few years ago, it's still a tough competitor for today's digital SLR cameras. Nathan GrammaticoPhotographer.nathangrammatico@yahoo.com
