Review on πŸ” Enhanced SEO: LS2 MX-Off Road Subverter Helmet for Optimal Performance by Julian Rash

Good airflow but tight fit

I ride narrow mountain trails in the tropics so I needed a helmet that would keep me as cool as possible. Luckily I found the LS2 Subverter. I've been using it for a few months, so here's my first review. STRENGTHS: 1. Vents - I ride in hot and humid conditions so I need a helmet that allows as much airflow as possible. My outdoor helmet has a few vents, but they don't let much air through. But the Subverter has many ventilation openings on the forehead, crown and back of the head. These vents go right through, even through the liner and best of all. . . they actually work. I can feel and hear the wind go through.2. Washable - The cheek pads are quick to remove, not only great if you need to easily remove your helmet in the event of an injury, these cheek pads and all of the internal padding can be removed for washing. Underneath, the smooth plastic inside can be easily wiped clean and dried.3. Color. Living in a hot climate, I try to keep ALL off-road cycling gear as light as possible to reflect the sun's heat. Fortunately, this helmet turned out to be a perfect match for this color - white. Not only does it keep the heat out, but it also makes me visible to other riders without having to wear those flashy 80's neon colors. I don't know why, but no other company seems to make a plain white dirt bike helmet. Value - I could spend $400 or $500 for a super quality helmet, but I'm not a competitive enduro pro. Also, I don't have enough money to spend on equipment. I think that the money paid for the overall quality of the helmet is one of the strongest points to recommend the Subverter. WEAKNESSES: 1. Weight. This helmet is quite heavy. I compared it to my friends helmets from other brands and the weight difference is obvious. That might be a problem for those who ride hard enduro all day, but it's not a problem for me. But remember, the low price of this helmet really shows in the weight.2. The fit is too tight, especially around the cheeks. I usually wear XL but with LS2 I always have to order XXL and even then it's still a bit tight. When I first put it on, the cheek pads hit my face so hard it damaged the glands in my cheeks and neck. I washed the pads twice then put about 6 rubber bands around each pad to smooth them out and they are STILL a bit tight. I don't want to wear something that hurts my face for 2 hours in 20 minutes. Mind you, that suction cup is tight and the cheek pads are the worst part.3. Belt. The strap attaches with an old-fashioned double D-ring. What are these 1960s? I have never owned a helmet that used this outdated system, even in the early 90's all my helmets had some sort of clip or ratchet. There are many strong devices that securely fasten the helmet strap, saving me the age old fastening system when I put on my gloves. 4. Internal Colors. The light colors of the upholstery get dirty easily, it would be better to use a darker color like navy blue or dark green. Light-colored fabric looks dirty after repeated use.5. Internal Build Quality - The cheek pads attach to a black plastic attachment system. Even after peeling the pads off 3 times, one of those clips started to come loose, which means I'll probably have to superglue it on soon. So LS2 made a helmet that you can quickly remove the cheek pads from, and with that, most likely, the mounts will come out. NOT GOOD. Summary: The helmet has good airflow, a nice color and is very safe, but some other features of build quality and design choices let it down. I'm generally happy with the purchase, but some changes may be ok.
