is a little longer than I thought (again, I'm bad at measuring) but sturdy as it comes out. I got this because I have a special necklace that I never take off and when it was on its original chain it got stuck between bags at work and I didn't realize it was ripped off. (Yes, I did feel a tug, but I thought it was because of the torn ID lanyard, but it can be untied for security). Luckily someone eventually saw it and it was mine and got it back. Not wanting to risk it again, I took them as they don't break easily. Since then I have gotten my necklace caught between bags many times and it has never come loose. Of course it's considered a security breach since they're so long, but the point is how robust they are.
