Review on Logitech Z623 980 000402 Certified Refurbished by Jasin Gilstrap

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not a bad price, but incredibly disappointing in volume and sound given the refurbished condition.

As an audiophile, I find it a bit difficult to review Logitech audio products as I think these speakers fall in a gray area. First of all, I love these guys. These weren't necessarily the speakers I prefer as I have full studio monitors, but between buying monitors and moving around the apartment these speakers really helped me. For a whopping $85, you get the crisp sound of a standard Bose/Hartman Kardon portable (with multiple EQ settings) and the power of a mid-range speaker system. It offers an "appeal" that is unparalleled in this price range. Hostel parties, TV parties, social gatherings up to 15/20 people; These speakers will not only pick up all these impressions, they will amplify them. You may have high hopes for the $85 speakers, but they really outperform their competitors. That being said, I was incredibly disappointed in terms of the finely tuned ear. I could hardly play an instrumental, complex mid-high song at 75% volume without a muffled, deafening radio like hiss in the background. This is unacceptable for a remanufactured product. Not only could I not play past 75% volume without the speakers about to explode, but there was a large dent in the mesh coverage of one of the woofers. Pretty poor performance, I have to say, given the speakers' stated condition. The notch looks ugly and I can't pry it out as the metal seems to have been forced in. In summary, yes they are good for their price but oh well. However, the speakers should be able to handle 75% volume control without sounding like a bad 70s radio recording with all the scratchy highs. I hope the supplier gets in touch.
