Read reviews of this and countless other lamps like this on various websites and vendors. Everyone mentions that it doesn't feel durable and rocks on carpets. We have two cats and it bothered me but they were perfect for the look I'm going to create in my living room so I decided to take a chance. Easy to set up. Followed the instructions and everything was great. BUT I didn't put the small pads on the bottom of the lamp because I would have them on the carpet. With pads they stagger BADLY. Pretty good without pads. I would still suggest putting some heavy books or other weight on the bottom shelf for more stability. The shelves are up. I thought it referred to the type of shelves you attach to the hinges, but they actually screw on as part of the assembly. Shelves with posts also created a smaller center space than I imagined which is great. I have a huge cat and I was worried he would try to sit on it and the shelf would collapse under his weight. But then again, the shelves are in place, and he could only put his front half on them because the polls got in the way, so he couldn't fit in all the way. TL; DR: - I would recommend it to people. who want to increase their space on a budget. - Shelves don't collapse under a cat. - When installing a carpet, DO NOT glue cushions to the floor. - Add heavy objects to the bottom shelf for more stability.
