I had a lot of trouble with my cat throwing a pile of her litter out of the box every time. It does a great job of preserving everything. It only comes out from the top so I can see how much is gathering there and I can easily brush it back in through the holes at the top so it doesn't spill all over the floor. Teaching him how to get in from the front and get out at the top wasn't too difficult. I installed it first and let it in before putting some junk in it and then showed it to open the top. For a while he liked to lie inside, like in a little club. But in the end he figured out how to walk and got the hang of it. However, he LOVES to play with the front door. I often hear him repeatedly fumbling with it from the inside (I think he likes the sound he makes). At first I thought he wanted out, but when I held it open he just wanted me to close it again. Cleaning is not difficult, the tray slides out easily. It's a good size even for big cats (my cat is a ragdoll) and I would definitely recommend it.
