They protect against dust, hand oil, etc. I love them. It takes a little while to get used to tapping over the keys, but now that I'm used to it, I love it! They have one flaw, that's why I rated them 4 stars. I transcribe so I wanted to preserve the keyboard keys as much as possible. I bought this keyboard case about a year ago after the key plaque wore out. Now I have a few on hand because they wear out over time. I currently have a hole in the E key and some of the key symbols have faded along with the color leaving clear circles where the key color and letter symbol used to be. I don't mind wearing. It was the hole in the part covering the E button that made me order more of these.
