They break just as easily as the most brittle plastic.

I really don't think this is some kind of metal alloy. They break just as easily as the most brittle plastic. In fact, several of them were broken in the packaging. If you are planning to use them as pendants to be hung from something else, be aware that the top hole is very small on some styles and you will need some sort of jewelry connecting ring to use them. They are suitable for decorative purposes such as scrapbooking etc. But don't expect anything that looks, feels or performs like metal.
