This chalk works well. But it doesn't stick together very well like using a chalk block to chalk a pole. It is very soft and very brittle and will break apart when the block rubs against the crossbar. But in powder form it works very well. Personally, I like doing both at the gym. It does a very good job of chalking and is a lot less messy. -Some gyms are fed up with the typical dunce smearing chalk on the platform etc. Then they end up banning all use of chalk! Good price, good product. I just wish the blocks were more tightly packed and held together better.
