Will not fit new pencils or pens

Bought for my daughter because she loves Paris but it will not fit new pencils/pens, they are too long. Can be suitable for makeup, although much less than expected. Standard chisel-tipped sharpie markers will fit, but no more. Still cute to use as a coin pouch.
