You open the earring by pulling it apart. There is a loop at the bottom of the hoop. When opened, the rounded shank of the earring is revealed. I wish they were a little thicker so they could stand out a bit more but they are a good size and very elegant. They add a bit of boldness to the outfit while maintaining the sophistication. The earrings also came in a cute little Tiffany style box. They would be great for a gift.
