If you have a 3.5L Chevy engine code PO171, the original hose may be the culprit.
My 2004 Colorado 5 cylinder engine had a lean vacuum leak code (PO171) that came up intermittently, but usually showed up at long idle, after which the RPM would drop. Long term fuel trim values were between -15 and -20% and short term around 0. It was found that the PCV hose under the intake manifold was cracked and brittle causing a vacuum leak.
