I got these to work on my two Toyotas and a vintage Ford Mustang. The whole idea is that they have a bored out section inside with a nylon capture ring, so the spark plug sits snugly inside the socket. This makes them lighter than a normal deep socket, which is, after I thought about it, appropriate for the design (I like a nice hefty tool, so this took some thinking)The accessories are nice. I was wondering what the knurled ring on the two extension bars was for, until I realized it was a locking mechanism for attaching the socket to the bar. The sockets have a little depression to accept the catch ball, which is locked into place by the ring. Pull it up to release, otherwise it's stuck solid. This is a good thing to have when you're trying to extract a plug that's farther down or harder to reach - the last thing you want is for the plug and socket to fall off the extension while you're trying to put them in or take them out.The little universal joint has three pinions instead of the typical two, so it gets another few degrees of freedom. That's a nice plus too. Not really necessary for me, thankfully, with two inline-fours and a 330 V8 with enough room around it, but helpful in a pinch (or to avoid one).
