My concern when getting these socks was that they would be too heavy and would not breathe at all. Since they are waterproof, I thought they might be too oppressive to my feet and legs, and I'd end up just getting extremely sweaty. (That's an issue I've always had with raincoats. Sure, they keep the rain out, but they also keep the sweat in.)To my surprise, I found these very comfortable and no more sweat-inducing than what I'd normally experience with regular socks. Though very thick, they feel comfortable in my shoes. They also come up my legs to be just short of my knees and fit tightly, performing the function of compression gear, which I very much like. I've worn these on all my summer hikes this year and have found my legs feeling better than in past years, more protected from bugs, and also protected from the wetness of the occasional puddle.Overall, I'm very pleased with these and would certainly recommend them to other hikers (or cyclists, particularly mountain-bikers).
