I think this hammer was about $10 when I bought it from Revain so the price has gone up. It was good value for money. It appears to be a lot heavier than Estwing's 14-ounce drywall hammer. I don't like the grip with a sandpaper-like finish that sticks directly to the wood and doesn't come off. I'd recommend an Estwing drywall hammer or shingle hammer instead if price isn't your concern. I think it's a fine, well-built tool that will last a long time, but I think the 12-ounce weight is deceiving. I'm only concerned about that weight because in addition to ripping and removing shingles and roofing, this tool also doubles as an ax/multi-tool for backpacking. I use a skeletal hammer and a 14 ounce nail puller every day and this tool is much more economical so I can't attest to its strength and durability under heavy use.
