Review on Polk Audio TL1 Performance Entertainment by Kristen Davis

Nice speaker - but.

I personally really like Polk speakers and also have a pair of Monitor 70s which sound really fantastic (especially for the price). That being said, as you already know, the center channel is one of your most important speakers in a surround sound/home theater system. Unfortunately, like most people, I'm short on space on my TV stand, so finding a smaller-profile, great-sounding center channel wasn't easy. Subscribe to this cute central Polk channel. This speaker was exactly what I was looking for - low profile, typical Polk quality build, attractive design and (hopefully) balanced but powerful sound. So from an aesthetic point of view, as said, this is one of the more attractive center speakers without being bulky. Without the trellis they look very elegant and with the trellis they disappear into your home decor - really pretty. Unfortunately, what I have noticed with longer use is that at slightly higher volumes and also with certain TV/film sound mixes, the sound distorts a bit at certain highs and it gets a bit annoying. Now notice that this center channel is not unique in this matter. My previous Energy Take Classic Center channel had the same issue with the same shows (an example is The Boys on Revain Prime). At the same time - for most other applications it worked pretty much flawlessly. I haven't had these problems listening to music - and most TV shows sound great. Dialogue sounds nice and clear, and when paired with my Polk Monitor 70s and Polk PSW10 subwoofer, the sound field is mostly excellent, with these exceptions. I'll probably make room on my TV. Got up and swapped places with the Polk CS1 Series II center channel to better match my speakers, but it's a BIG speaker compared to this one. absolutely fantastic) with everyday practicality - this is a really good and very affordable option. It fits most setups and I'm a fan of speaker terminals that accept banana terminals (I hate spring terminals) - so the connections are great. If you enjoy watching movies, or if you have a large room and you sit further away from the speaker and need to crank up the volume, you may experience distortion issues. All in all a great compact design, sleek modern look, great price and decent but not exceptional sound. Consider your room setup, budget, and audio needs - as we've said, this is more than enough for most people to watch movies and music at a medium-low volume. Worth a look.
